A Sacred Journey: Finding Faith, Peace, and Joy in Rome
The Two Bramante Staircases
Pio Clementino Museum, Vatican City
Visiting Rome and stepping into the Vatican Museums was more than just a travel experience—it was a journey of the soul. As I stood amidst the breathtaking beauty of the Sistine Chapel, the ornate halls, and the timeless works of art, I felt an overwhelming sense of awe. These masterpieces were more than just creations; they were testaments to humanity's centuries-old pursuit of God, meaning, and purpose.
Walking through those sacred halls, I found myself reflecting deeply on my relationship with God. I was reminded of Ecclesiastes 3:11, which says, "He has made everything beautiful in its time. Also, He has put eternity in their hearts." The Vatican Museums embodied that truth—centuries of devotion and creativity woven together into a tapestry of eternal beauty.
This trip wasn’t just about art and architecture; it was about the relationships I built along the way. Sharing these moments with someone special gave me a deeper appreciation for connection and community. From heartfelt conversations about faith over espresso to meeting locals who shared their stories, I realized that relationships—whether with God or others—are central to finding true happiness and peace. As Proverbs 27:17 reminds us, "As iron sharpens iron, so one person sharpens another."

Rome itself felt like a slice of heaven. Late-night bike rides through cobblestone streets, laughter echoing in the moonlit air, enjoying incredible food that nourished both body and soul—it was a celebration of life’s simple joys. These moments reminded me of John 10:10, where Jesus says, "I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full." For the first time in a long time, I felt that fullness.

Fruits amongst the trees.
This journey reminded me that happiness and peace aren’t destinations—they’re the fruit of living intentionally with God at the center. As I left Rome, my heart was full of gratitude, inspiration, and a renewed desire to seek Him in all things. Psalm 16:11 says, "You make known to me the path of life; you will fill me with joy in your presence."

"Whenever I think back to my time in Rome, I don’t just remember the landmarks. I remember the quiet moments—the feel of cobblestones beneath my feet, the taste of gelato under the Italian sun, and the way the city’s ancient stories seemed to echo in every corner I turned." —Steven-Patrick Brown

Yet, there was a part of me that wanted to reclaim those moments for myself. I longed to stay in Rome, to live in that rhythm of beauty, faith, and connection. I realized, though, that the peace and joy I was searching for in Rome didn’t come from the city itself—it came from how it drew me closer to God. It taught me to find Him not just in the grandeur of cathedrals but in shared meals, quiet prayers, and the laughter of new friends.
I look forward to returning one day—to explore more, to grow more, and to experience the beauty of life and faith once again. Until then, I carry these lessons with me, knowing that every day holds an opportunity to seek Him, share joy, and reflect His love.
Let this be a reminder: sometimes, stepping outside your everyday life is exactly what you need to see God’s hand in every part of it. Rome taught me that, and I pray it inspires you to look for Him wherever you are.
